Flow meter Comparison Test
Thermancy was approached by a new client in a country that Thermancy had not carried out work to date. They expressed an interest in purchasing the Acuity pump monitors for the pumps at their potable water pumping stations.
The water company had just completed the construction of a new pumping station. The station is unusual, in that all pumps were fitted with a complete set of sensors including Krohne flow meters, suction pressure transducers, discharge pressure transducers and digital power meters.
Although this station did not need monitoring, it was agreed that this would make an excellent station to validate the performance of the Acuity against the site instrumentation.
The Acuity pump monitor was fitted to each pump. Each pump was run in turn, a pump performance carried out and the station flow rate compared to the Acuity flow rate.
The Acuity computer recorded all parameters from the Acuity system and the station SCADA recorded values from the site sensors.
The tests were completed in one day, with the discharge value of the pump throttled to simulate different pump operating points.
Pumps in excellent condition
<1% variation between flow meters
The pumps were all in excellent condition and the Acuity performance curve was a very good match with the original manufacturer’s curves
The flow rate from the Acuity matched closely the station Krohne flow meter.
The water company now has a better understanding of the capabilities of the Acuity pump monitor and is in the process of allocating funds to purchase equipment for other station.
