Wastewater Pumping Station
The client was experiencing a drop in the output from the pumps at the wastewater pumping station.
They had arranged for all 3 pumps to be refurbished. However, they contacted Thermancy to carry out a pre-refurbishment test of all pumps.
The 3 pumps are all of the same type. The pump duty is 170kW at 1080 m3/h with a pump head of 24m.
The pumps automatically start and stop based on the sump level. All pumps are fitted with a variable frequency drive.
All pumps were tested using the Agile pump test kit. The site did not have a station flow meter so a doppler flow meter was attached to the discharge pipework for record a secondary flow rate for the station.
All pumps were tested within 5 hours, with 4 test points recorded for each test.
The discharge valve was not accessible during the test so a variable speed test was completed for each pump.
Pump 1 13.5% to 69.7%,
Pump 2 40.7% to 70.6%
Pump 3 44.9% to 69.3%
The test results showed that all pumps were in need of refurbishment but that pump 1 was the priority candidate.
Once all pumps were refurbished, a re-test was completed to determine the new pump efficiencies. All pumps now have improved efficiencies.
